LoL Champion Pricing Updates: Making Champions More Accessible

The Champion Pricing system has evolved over time, and while it served its purpose in the past, it now feels outdated. Today, we are excited to announce a new Champion pricing system that aims to address these concerns and make Champions more accessible to all players.

Introducing the New Champion Pricing System

In our latest /dev blog video, Riot Meddler and Brightmoon announced a revamped Champion pricing system that takes into account two main factors: the age of Champion release and new tiers based on player data.

Age of Champion Release

Previously, the pricing system focused solely on the age of Champion releases. However, we realized that this approach no longer reflects the current state of the game. The new system considers the number of Seasons since a Champion was released. This means that if a Champion has been around for more than two seasons, their cost will decrease to 4800.

Tiers

Champions will now be classified into different tiers based on data from new and returning players. The first tier will include Champions that are popular and cater to newer players, with simpler kits like Vex. As we move up the tiers, we will include fan favorites that are more challenging to play or require a deeper understanding of the game, such as Twisted Fate.

Popular Champions like Yasuo and Sett will see a significant reduction in their prices, now costing only 1350 BE, making them more accessible to both new and returning players.

Huge Cost Reductions and New Champion Bundles

With these new changes, there will be a price reduction of over 140,606 BE and 4,905 RP for the entire champion catalog. This means that it will be more achievable than ever before to unlock all the Champions.

However, it’s important to note that some Champions that previously costed 450 BE will now have a higher price, especially those that have recently undergone VGUs or CGUs (like Aurelion).

To help players get started quickly, we will be introducing new champion bundles in the near future. While the details are still being finalized, some of these bundles will cater to specific roles within each tier. So, if you’re a beginner mid laner, you can expect a new bundle tailored just for you.
