Aliens: Colonial Marines

Aliens: Colonial Marines

Aliens: Colonial Marines is a highly anticipated game that has been developed with a lot of love and dedication by Randy Pitchford and the team at Gearbox. Inspired by James Cameron’s iconic sci-fi action movie, this game aims to capture the essence of the film and deliver an immersive experience for players.

A Sequel to the Movie

Set months after the events of Aliens, Colonial Marines is considered a sequel to the movie. Players will have the opportunity to uncover some unanswered questions from the film, such as what happened to Hudson when he was pulled through the floor by a xenomorph.

An Authentic Experience

In a live gameplay demo, we were able to witness many familiar elements from the movie. The game opens with a ship crashing onto the surface of LB-426, immediately drawing players into the action. As the Marines start exploring the area, they come across facehuggers suspended in fluid, a tracker that starts pinging, and a reinforced steel door that has been torn open. The tension builds up as a xenomorph tears through the ceiling and attacks, resulting in a gripping battle.

Intense Moments of Survival

Throughout the game, players will face intense moments of survival. The demo showcased the adrenaline-inducing experience of a xenomorph pouncing on the player, only to be taken down with a single blast from a shotgun. The Marines must work together, gathering weapons and fortifying their position to make a last stand against the relentless swarm of creatures. The drop-in, drop-out co-op feature allows up to four players to join forces and tackle the challenges together.

A Desperate Battle

As the Marines are forced to retreat, they find themselves in a harrowing situation outside in the rain. They encounter a new xenomorph type, a four-legged creature with a fearsome head crest. Despite the player’s close encounter with this creature, they manage to escape just in time. Inside the hangar, a standoff takes place as xenomorphs pour in through the ceiling. The tension escalates when an exo suit, initially blasting flames at the enemies, is overpowered and a xenomorph dives in for the kill. To make matters worse, a queen xenomorph smashes through the wall and lunges at the player, leaving us on the edge of our seats.

A Faithful Adaptation

Aliens: Colonial Marines has been in development for quite some time, and it’s clear that the team has put in a lot of effort to stay faithful to the atmospheric and thrilling nature of the film series. With promises of multiple enemy types, the game is expected to offer a variety of gameplay experiences that will keep players engaged.

As a side note, Gearbox is considering prototyping the game for the Wii U, exploring ways to utilize the unique features of the console. This could potentially enhance the experience even further with interactive elements like the tracking sensor, hacking, and welding mini-games.
