Assassin’s Creed III

We had the opportunity to try out the latest version of Ubisoft’s multiplayer game, Assassin’s Creed III. In this article, we will explore the changes and improvements made since the last iteration.

Evolving and Improving the Multiplayer Experience

While Assassin’s Creed III showcased exciting new single-player content at E3, Ubisoft also catered to the dedicated fanbase of the AC multiplayer experience. We participated in matches featuring the new Domination game mode and discovered how the multiplayer game has evolved and become even better in this latest release.

A Twist on the Familiar Formula

The Domination mode retains the fundamental concepts of previous AC multiplayer modes. Players still stalk each other, striving to stay incognito while identifying and eliminating their targets. However, in Domination, capturing territories adds a new layer of strategy. Teams must reach designated areas on the board and hold them long enough to claim the location. Once secured, only the capturing team can assassinate opponents in that area. The opposing team can only retake the territory by sneaking in undetected. This twist creates exciting dynamics as teams strategize and attempt to outsmart each other.

Northwest Passage: A Snowy Battlefield

We played on the vast map called Northwest Passage. This outdoor environment featured snowy terrain with raised hills and boulders, allowing for clever approaches to territories and stealthy stalking of foes.

Fresh Skins and Abilities

We also had the chance to try out new character skins that fit perfectly into the Revolutionary War time period. Each character, such as the Carpenter, Montebank, Independant (a Native American woman), and Lady Maverick, came with unique costumes and kill animations.

The introduction of a third ability slot changed how players utilize their skills. Now, players can select two abilities that suit their playstyle while the third slot is dedicated to ranged weapons. We tested out several new abilities, including the Poison Dart for stealthy kills, Disruption to confuse opponents by scrambling the interface, Glimmer for limited invisibility, and Shield, which counters most other abilities.

Positive Directions in Multiplayer

Although our time with Assassin’s Creed III’s multiplayer was limited, playing against fellow E3 attendees left us with a confident impression that the franchise continues to make positive strides with its multiplayer component. While no major changes have been made to the core ideas, the improvements and fresh concepts make for an enjoyable multiplayer experience.
